Just over one month ago, the CBS News Sixty Minutes program aired a revealing segment on a legislative bill in Congress known as the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017, that if passed would ?allow a qualified individual to carry a concealed handgun into or possess a concealed handgun in another state that allows individuals to carry concealed firearms.? (In effect, it would make it legal for individuals to carry concealed handguns on their person anywhere in the country.) This bill was already passed in the U.S. House of Representatives last month and is currently scheduled for debate in the U.S. Senate. The NRA (acting in its capacity as an interest group and lobbyist) strongly supports the passage of this legislation and has aggressively lobbied members of Congress with significant amounts of financial support to their campaigns.
