Legal and Policy Frameworks to Promote Health

You are required to provide an advocacy strategy for your organisation, designed to influence the “rebel Senators” to vote to disallow the legislative instrument. You are not required to produce any actual advocacy materials (e.g. media releases, television advertisements); your task is to produce the background “briefing paper” for your Board. The briefing paper should: • Briefly describes the policy change and political issues, along with the aims and objectives of your advocacy strategy • Outline the potential effects that the policy may have on victims/survivors of men’s violence who are currently receiving the Disability Support Pension • Provide estimates, statistics, analysis and other evidence that can be used to clearly and concisely demonstrate that the policy change will create a further disadvantage for victims/ survivors of men’s violence • Illustrate how your advocacy campaign will be implemented: what media, what targets, what else… Format: your submission should be formatted as a brief paper for inclusion in the meeting papers for your Board. An example is provided on LEO; your submission will be more detailed. Be judicious with your use of the background materials: this information sets the scene and the Board will be very much aware of the political aspects of this issue. Your focus is how the advocacy strategy “fits” these details. Reproducing the scenario material will not meet the marking criteria.
