Alzheimer’s disease affects memory in a progressive fashion. Therapies being developed for Alzheimer’s are focused on reversing the memory deficits associated with the disease. One potential byproduct of this research will be medical therapies and interventions that can potentially enhance memory and cognitive function. Based on this research path one can foresee the development of a therapy that if applied to a healthy individual could improve memory and cognitive function beyond an individual’s baseline. Is it ethical for an enhancer of memory or cognitive function to be used by individuals who do not have an underlying neurodegenerative pathology?
