Lying for a Good Cause

Everybody loves Paul Rainey. He is a good friend to everybody that knows him. He goes to church every Sunday and Wednesday night. He sings in the choir and the annual Christmas play is usually sold out because people want to see what Paul is going to do each year.
Recently, however, a cloud has been growing over Paul. His best friend since High School, Dennis Friga, has been missing for almost two months without a trace. Paul is distraught and every Wednesday night leads the longest prayer that Dennis will be found and will be okay.
But local law enforcement is becoming ever more convinced that Dennis has been murdered and that Paul knows something about it or that he committed the murder himself. The police have been able to get the surveillance video from the Dairy Queen cameras which shows Dennis driving down the road toward Paul’s house. These videos are the last known time that Dennis was alive.
Assume that you are police investigator and your supervisor asked you to question Paul and further authorizes you to lie if it will help find Dennis (or his body) or if it will help to coax a confession out of Paul.

Using an appropriate prowess ethical frame and at least two additional ethical frames (a total of three (3) ethical frames) that have been defined in this course, write a brief essay.
In your final conclusion, answer these questions: Under these circumstances, would you lie? or not? Which ethical frames would you rely on to make your decision? If you decide to lie, what would the lie be?
