English 3 IB
Henry David Thoreau once said that the ideal location of a school should be at the foot of a mountain because then the students would be reminded of that tremendous mountain inside themselves which must be climbed if they would find self-realization.
Just as Thoreau, when confined in jail, has liberty to explore what he really is (the composite of his experiences, past and future), take some time away from external interruptions to consider the following questions: Who am I? Where am I going? What do I believe? Then, write a well-organized and thoroughly developed essay explaining your “philosophy of life.”
In your paper, discuss THREE of the following five areas:
CONCEPT OF THE INDIVIDUAL
• Rights and responsibilities
• Role in society
• Success, failure
KNOWLEDGE AND WISDOM
• How is it obtained
• How should it be used
• Education
ABSTRACT CONCEPTS
• Love
• Hatred
• Happiness
