According to Orstein and Hunkins, educational philosophy and learning theory also impact the design of the evaluation that is used in curriculum development: “How people process data is influenced by their philosophy and psychology” (2015, p. 247). Evaluation involves the judgment on the merit and worth of a curriculum. Is it accomplishing the goals for which it was intended? What is the best way to evaluate a specific curriculum? In evaluation, information is gathered to make a decision. Our authors identify two approaches, scientific and humanistic, but note that there are other approaches that are just as valid, all based on the philosophy and learning theory adopted by the school/district/developer.
As you consider the school for which you are developing the curriculum development proposal in LASA 2, after your study of the various approaches to evaluation, what approach would be the most logical evaluation approach for this specific school? Explain the rationale for your choice.
