1. Briefly summarize the author’s main point/thesis.
2. Choose a two-to-three sentence passage from each piece of writing that you find particularly intriguing—one that you strongly agree or disagree with, for example. Write a response to each passage in which you first explain what the passage means (summarize it in your own words) then explain why it interests you. This does not have to be an “I agree” or “I disagree” type of response (although you may discuss it in that way), but it does need to explain why and how these points/ideas/concepts/arguments made you think more deeply about the larger issue.
