Education worldview

Description

Stovall (2018) “Are We Ready for ‘School’ Abolition?: Thoughts and Practices of Radical Imaginary in Education”

Text notes will answer these basic questions:

(1) What fundamental message is the text’s creator trying to convey? That is, if you were to summarize their message, it would be this…

AND

(2) How do the texts for this week resonate with you personally? For instance, do they “disturb,” challenge, or confirm your worldview? Do you want to embrace or push back against their message? Perhaps they cause you to reconsider a moment from your past that you’re now seeing in a different light? Write about it.

Complete question #1 for each reading (a short summary of the reading – bullet points or keyphrases often work well here).

Complete question #2 only once. Use this question to explore your reactions to all the week’s texts as a whole (or one reading that you found the most meaningful). Written responses to this question should be at least one paragraph (3-5 sentences) in length.

Notes:

Use this assignment to help prepare yourself for discussions in the upcoming class. What do you want to discuss more? Perhaps there is a specific passage you’d like to bring up?
The format for this assignment is unspecified. I encourage you to complete the assignment in a manner that is the most meaningful to you.
Past students have experimented with a variety of submission formats, including:
Written essay format (often the easiest, safest, and (quite frankly) the best way to complete the assignment)
Powerpoint slides. Sometimes with meaningful pictures/graphics that accompany the text.

Original songs. This can be a challenging medium, as the song must answer the assignment questions (or include an accompanying explanation that ties the song to the texts).
