Discussion Prompt 1: Abnormal Psychology Defined
In this first week, you will want to have an understanding of what exactly the word Abnormal Psychology means. This term will encompass the information on which your learning objectives and assignments will focus. As you look at different mental health disorders, understanding what constitutes normal behavior versus abnormal behavior will be important.
Take time to research the difference between normal and abnormal behavior. You will find that the definition of normal changes within different contexts. Behavior considered normal in one culture or sub-culture may be very abnormal in another. Keep this in mind as you construct a definition of abnormal psychology and engage in discussion with your fellow learners.
Your initial discussion prompt post should include at least 150 words. You will need to construct your own definition of Abnormal Psychology. Post this definition as well as your rationale or other supporting information that led you to the specific definition you created. You may want to upload any images you find that may help depict your answer as well. Questions you may wrestle with in your research include: What constitutes normal behavior? What determines abnormal behavior? How is abnormal mental health different from normal mental health? At what point do thoughts and/or behavior change from normal to abnormal?
Your discussion with your fellow learners this should help create a good understanding of the term Abnormal Psychology. Remember to appropriately cite (in APA format) any reference to collateral material you use in your posts. Post at least two response posts to at least two other fellow learners.
