be presented to the class. Provide a handout to peers and instructor that includes 2 pages of key points
and a reference list that shows evidence of use of a variety of high-quality references (typed in 12-point
Times New Roman and double-spaced).
In your presentation you could:
• Describe the history and development of the selected institution
• Describe the collections, their use, and existing collecting policies at the institution of interest.
• Summarize current preservation activities at institution of interest. What are they and who is
responsible for them?
• Specify standards followed at the institution of interest, as well as procedures for preparing
materials, filming materials, and ensuring quality control.
• Sketch out general guidelines for preservation microfilming
• Outline the various technical strategies for preserving digital objects.
• Define and distinguish digital repositories, digital archives, and institutional repositories.
• Chart strategies for selecting archival collections for preservation (e.g., condition, use,
importance, value)
