The Scale of Effective School Discipline and Safety (SESDS)
An important element of a Positive Behavioral Support System (PBSS) is the readiness of the staff to help implement the system. This is a framework for collaborative and consistent responses to behavioral issues, and it will be addressed in detail in Module 2. Critical to the process are the attitudes of teachers, their understanding and use of research-based classroom management strategies, and how they see their students responding to classroom and school discipline.
In Module 1’s Analysis Assignment, you will use the Scale of Effective School Discipline and Safety (SESDS) Questionnaire to evaluate the readiness of teachers at Lacy Elementary School to implement PBSS. Using the five sets of mock data, you will analyze teachers’ attitudes and perceptions relative to the status of school-wide and teacher approaches to discipline and behavior management.
