The objective for this assignment is to analyze a work of art using the 4 steps of art criticism, emphasizing what you have learned so far. Using the vocabulary and concepts from the readings, power-point and outlines, write a 1-2 page paper on one particular work of art. See below for the list of images to choose from. The paper should be broken down into the following 4 steps of art criticism. Please submit this paper as an attachment only in the “assignments” link. The paper is worth 25 points.
Description – include artist name, title, media, subject matter, is the work abstract, representational or non-representational, 2-D or 3-D, fine art or applied art? (5 points)
Analysis – What Visual Elements does the artist use and how do they use them? What Principles of Design does the artist use to compose this work of art? (How does the artist arrange the Visual Elements within the composition?) (5 points)
Interpretation – What is the Content of the work? (What do you think the work is about) Explain, what is it about the work that leads you to believe this? (10 points)
Evaluation (Judgment) – Considering your analysis of the work of art, what is your intelligent and informed opinion of the artwork? Why? (5 points)
