How have media representations of African-American athletes changed over
time? (Draw heavily on our readings, lectures, and outside resources.)
Write a short essay in which you provide a summary of the issue drawing on readings and discussions; provide
an account on multiple perspectives on this issue; marshal evidence to support a conclusion.
To emphasize, the writer should not simply state their opinion; rather, he or she should explain the issue,
consider the various perspectives, and then provide evidence that supports the most logical conclusion.
The essay should be written in third person.
The paper should be divided into three sections.
Section I, Summary: Summarize the issue using at least two examples provided in class. (150 words)
Section II, Evidence: Provide three citations from outside the class that address this issue or illustrate the
problem, and provide multiple perspectives on this issue. (150 words)
Section III, Logical Conclusion: Marshal the evidence to support a logical conclusion (200 words)
