Go to COCA, and find the relative frequency of each word. Then, compare concordance lines for each word to try to get a sense of any differences in usage. Include a picture of some relevant concordance lines for each word in your assignment.
Write a report summarizing what you have found. For example: Are there differences in how these synonyms are used? Which one is more popular? Has it always been this way? Can any historical changes in their relative usage be explained? Are there any ‘hidden’ differences in meaning? Do they differ in the kinds of sources they tend to be used in?
