As part of your intern experience at the juvenile center, you observed many aspects of working with youth. One
of the most interesting was a visit to the local corrections department where you were able to meet the
probation officer (PO) assigned to several cases(MADE UP), including Callie’s case.(MADE UP)You were also
introduced to the judge, who was very interested in what you learned during your internship.
The judge asked you to prepare a formal research paper applying what you have learned about the
collaborative approach utilized in the juvenile justice system, including your understanding of the role of the
probation officer and the other members involved.
You are now completing this research paper as part of your internship credit. In a two- to three-page APA
formatted paper, address each of the following with supporting examples as noted. Your paper should be in
essay form (not a bulleted list). Incorporate support for your responses and use appropriate citations.
*First, describe the role of probation officers in the juvenile justice system. Discuss examples of the team
approach between the PO and the judge.
*Then, discuss at least two intermediate sanctions the PO might utilize in Callie’s case(MADE UP). Include an
explanation of what risks and/or needs each intermediate sanction addresses.
*Next, describe the use of multi-disciplinary teams and collaborative approaches to interactions with youth
involved in the juvenile justice system. Identify specific examples of team players (judge, PO, social worker,
teacher/school staff, therapeutic counselor) and their respective roles as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
*Finally, discuss at least two types of community resources to address Callie’s needs and risk factors and what
members of the team would be involved in the utilization of each community resource.
