Read “The Relationship in Human Relations” case study 4.2 on page 103. (This exercise will help prepare you for writing the Case Study assignment due later in this course.) Answer the case study questions, writing a paragraph of 4 to 5 sentences for each prompt (quoting important and relevant textbook materials): (1) Would you identify the conflict in this case as a values conflict (why or why not)? (2) What instrumental and terminal values can you identify for Jocelyn? (3) Would you define this conflict scenario as internal, personal versus group, or interpersonal (explain your answer)? (4) What advice would you offer Jocelyn to address this situation? This week, we will study the role that employee attitudes and values have on human relations in the workplace. There is a strong relationship between having a positive attitude and workplace success. Values are also especially important to understanding human behavior. Conflicts between employees, as well as between managers and employees, often are based on differences in values. An attitude is an evaluation of people, ideas, issues, situations, or objects. An attitude has three parts: Thoughts, Feelings, Actions. Values are the worth or importance people attach to different factors in their​‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍​ life. Values usually come in a list of priorities that people are not fully consciously aware of at the time when value judgments take place. All of an individual’s values taken together are called a value system—the set of standards by which you have chosen to live. Values exist not only within individuals but in organizations as well. Corporate culture is a system of shared values throughout any given company or other organization.
