In Dr. Kyle Whyte’s paper, Indigenous Climate Change Studies: Indigenizing Futures, Decolonizing the
Anthropocene he writes:
Indigenous knowledges, in the simplest terms, refer to systems of monitoring, recording, communicating, and
learning about the relationships among humans, nonhuman plants and animals, and ecosystems that are
required for any society to survive and flourish in particular ecosystems which are subject to perturbations of
various kinds.
In response to this essay and considering contemporary art’s relationship to landscape image-making, this is
an opportunity to propose a new Indigenous imaginary or reinforce Traditional Knowledge that has traveled
time. You may produce and present an original artwork in video, audio, performance, installation or with
electronic or digital materials, or hybrids of these..
