Sousa is known in the field as an international consultant in educational neuroscience, and he is the author of a dozen books that translate findings in neuroscience to inform strategies for teaching and learning. In his chapter, he reviews the history of how education began to consider applications of emerging research on the brain.

Judy Willis practiced neurology for numerous years before becoming an elementary and middle school teacher. In her chapter, she discusses how important it is for teachers to understand neuroscience research, as much of the current research has influential implications for education.
