Developmental psychologists

Developmental psychologists view play as the major means through which physical, cognitive, and social skills are mastered, especially during the preschool years. Unfortunately, many adults are so involved with the work ethic that they do not appreciate the role of children’s play. Some punish their children for “horsing around” too much, or they criticize preschool teachers for letting children play too much, or they may schedule their children’s lives so heavily with lessons and chores that there is little time for play. Your task in this assignment is to design a toy suitable for a child in the age range of 2 to 12 years old (pick a specific age). Keep in mind the physical, cognitive, and social needs of children. Then answer these questions about your toy:

What is the name of the toy?
Describe the toy.
How old is the child for whom the toy is intended?
What developmental theory or theories justify the utility of your toy?
How does the child play with it?
What features of the toy make it developmentally appropriate?
What domain (s) of development is your toy designed to stimulate?
How are the domains stimulated?
What are the specific features of the toy (size, shape, color, noise-making properties, etc.) that enhance its attractiveness and play value?
What considerations are there for preventing injury when the toy is used?
