Many of these biopsychosocial theories have become woven into the way we think and talk about people, their functioning, and the sources of their problems. For one day (in your social work classes or in practice), keep notes of when and where you see evidence of these theories. For example, do you hear people talking about someone “being in denial”? Does anyone make reference to “Freudian slips”? Do you see media coverage of the effects of budget cuts on client-directed care for people with disabilities? Does a parent talk about reminding herself that her toddler’s misbehavior is developmentally appropriate?
