Write a reflection of 200-300 words addressing the following question. In your answer, address some aspect of the course materials and include your own perspective or experiences.
Question: In the introductory lecture to Unit 2, I describe Eric Wolf’s approach to power as consisting of 4 parts. For this response, choose a moment or example from either of readings about colonialism and language (Cohn or Thiong’o) and analyze it according to these four aspects of power. There may be multiple aspects of power at work in any particular instance of social life. So you will:
1) describe the instance or example, giving the author and page number.
2) name the kinds of power involved in it, according to Wolf’s 4 kinds.
3) describe the reasons why you think this is/these are the kinds of power in play here.
