The American Nurses Association (2019)

The American Nurses Association (2019) predicted healthcare organizations would face a nurse staffing crisis in 2022, with an estimated 1.2 million positions being available. In 2020 the Covid-19 pandemic hit the world by storm, increasing the nursing staffing crisis to heights not faced before. This crisis is forcing healthcare organizations to adapt to retaining and recruiting skilled, qualified nurses. Developing strategies to assist healthcare organizations in increasing their nursing staff is an absolute must. These organizations must support nurses and education (Ferguson & Williams, 2020).

My Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) focuses on developing a strategy for building pipelines of potential nursing staff candidates through the utilization of nursing students performing clinical practicums within their organization. Creating a clinical orientation for students that would put them on a path towards a guaranteed position within the organization upon graduation and passing their nursing boards would assist healthcare organizations in fulfilling their open staffing positions.
