choose a picture book and spend time practicing the thinking
strips strategies.
Instructions:
Choose a story to read aloud to a child or a peer or family member. While you are
reading, be sure to do some think aloud. Ask questions about the book that will help the
listener connect with the story by using their five senses. Ask the child (or person) to
draw five pictures of events that he remembers from the story. You can create your
own version of a thinking strip. Ask the child to use the strips to retell the story and
together, come up with the big idea the story is trying to convey.
Requirements:
Submit a video showing you reading the book and asking the questions and doing the
drawings. This assignment can be done in two different parts with the planning of the
book, think alouds and questions first and then the video of you reading the book, with
think alouds and questions included in the reading. Next, ask the child or person to use
the thinking strips to retell the story. Finally, submit the thinking strips as a PDF with a
summary of how the child responded to this strategy
