ESTIMATING

You are required to prepare a construction estimate and schedule for the work indicated on the
attached plans. This will account for 20% of your grade.
The items of work include the following
1. 16” diameter watermain in blue
2. 8” Diameter watermain in light blue
3. 24” gas main in yellow
4. 84” Reinforced Concrete Pipe in pink
5. Elliptical Concrete pipe shown in pink
6. 18” Sanitary Sewer Pipe shown in green
7. 18” Storm Drainage Pipe in pink
8. Concrete Chamber (6’ x 28’)
9. Concrete Chamber (14’ x 20’)
16” Water Main
Production Rates Production Rates Material Cost
16” water main 5 –feet per hour $150 per LF
16” Fittings at angle points 2-crew hours $300 each
16” Gate Valves 4-crew hours $1,500 each
1. Remember you have to order 16” water main in 20-feet lengths and you have to consider
waste.
2. Calculate the depth of the excavation by assuming 4-feet of cover to the top of the pipe.
3. This work will require two wet taps to active the new watermain that will require a
subcontractor at a cost of $5,000 per wet tap.
4. For work required within the highway right-of-way will require a maintenance and
protection and traffic subcontractor (cones, barricades, signs, etc.) at the cost of $750 per
day plus you as the contractor will need to provide two additional laborers to support the
subcontractor.
