Without a doubt, the major shift between this generation and the ones that preceded it is the evolution from Web 1.0 to Web 3.0. The videos you watched, and article you read, present some similar and different ideas about the internet of the future.
In How We need to Remake the Internet, Jaron Lanier suggests a model of internet access that looks like Netflix or Hulu and observes “We can imagine a hypothetical world of peak social media. What would that be like? It would mean when you get on, you would get really useful authoritative medical advice instead of cranks. It could mean when you want to get factual information not a bunch of weird paranoid conspiracy theories”
In A Magna Carta for the Web, Berners-Lee lays out some ideas about how the Internet of the future should operate. He states, “I want one which is not fragmented into lots of pieces. I want a web which has got, a really good basis for democracy, and where I can use health care with privacy for where there is a lot of health data for scientists to do research, and where the other 60% get on board as fast as possible, I want a web that is such a powerful basis for innovation that when something nasty happens, a disaster happens, that we can build stuff to respond to it very quickly.”
In Why the Web 3.0 Matters and you should know about it, Matteo Gianpietro Zago argues that Web 3.0 will be “about multiple profit centers sharing value across an open network.” Three main ideas driving this change: “No central point of control, ownership of data, and no central point of control”. Write a journal of 2 or more full double-spaced pages with 1 inch margins and 12 point font, using paragraphs for each response, in which you in which you which you predict the future (not restate the present) of interacting with the internet by responding to the follow three questions. yes, you do not know for sure, and still need to make a prediction. You can be creative in your predictions considering what read and watched this week:
Through what devices will people connect to the internet that are different from today’s deceives, and why will they use these devices?
What is one or two societal or cultural influences you believe the internet have more of in the future?
What are two ways our interactions (social, economic, or professional) via the internet be different in the future?
