You just viewed a scene from the film “East is East”. This film is about a man who immigrates to England from Pakistan as a young man. He marries a British woman and they have many children over the years. The father and children encounter many difficulties in understanding the points of view of each other through out the film. When the eldest child is twenty, there is a marriage arranged with another Pakistani family. This proves to be disastrous for the family.
In this particular scene, the son changes his mind about going through the marriage at the last minute. The father does not understand and in the next scene (approximately 2 years later) you see him telling his wife that his son is dead. In reality, his son is not dead. In the fathers mind, however, the son brought shame on the family and is no longer a member.
