In Theories II, there are two assignments on weeks 8 and 14 called “treatment plan”. It starts with saying
“review the case”. Here is the case:
Ron and Leslie, a couple in their 30’s, have an infant daughter and a 14-year-old son with conduct
disorder. Ron is from the Middle East and is an Atheist. He works full-time in business
administration. Leslie is from Canada and believes in organized religion. She stays at home with
their children and does most of her work remotely. Leslie writes children’s books, is an influencer
on Instagram, and does some acting as a part-time job.
The couple is seeking therapy because of what is described as intimacy issues and negative
emotions. Specifically, Leslie desires more intimacy with Ron in terms of closeness, affection, and
sex. Ron on the other hand, has a lower desire for intimacy and finds it difficult to initiate sexual
encounters with his wife. Both Ron and Leslie find themselves increasingly defensive, critical, and
angry when discussing these things, and also their children, especially their son.
