TMA 03 requires you to study a video recording of a musical work and produce an analysis of the performance.
All three options feature instruments drawn from at least two of the Sachs-Hornbostel categories. In all
three recordings, you can see the performers clearly. To some extent, you can also see the microphones used. Give your analysis the title: Option b) An
analysis of
Altın Gün, ‘Maçka Yollari’ and ‘Hey Nari’
Write an essay of 2000 words using continuous prose, in which you analyse your selected recording in terms of its sound production. You should address:
a.the acoustic properties of the instruments/voices and
b.the ways in which they are used in your chosen work.
You should choose a line of argument that you feel is appropriate to the piece and its performance. For example, you might explore how the varied sounds in
a recording create musical interest, or make an argument about the relationship between the various sounds produced by different instruments.
