Write a 500-word essay where you compare and/or contrast two poems. Consider the poem’s theme and tone as well as each poet’s use of different elements as you discuss each of the poems:
1) Write a comparison/contrast essay of about 4 – 6 full-length paragraphs (10 sentences for each body paragraph), paying equal attention to each of the two poems. Your thesis statement should focus on a major similarity or difference between the two poems.
2) Use the appropriate language for discussing poetry in your essay: refer to the poem’s speaker and to lines and stanza numbers in using quotes. Try to include some discussion of images as well as the poet’s use of language and other poetic techniques wherever relevant.
3) Proofread carefully checking for errors in sentence construction, spelling, verb forms, pronouns, diction, and punctuation.
