Supporting Diversity And Promoting Equity For ELLs

Culturally responsive teaching and learning require that educators be informed about the importance of supporting linguistically and culturally diverse students. Educators are accountable for instituting equitable instructional practices that ensure all students have the same opportunity at making a marked degree of success in school.

Imagine you are an ESL or bilingual specialist in a school that has significantly struggled to meet the needs of diverse students. Some of the more vocal school staff have complained about the growing diversity and expressed negative feelings or frustration. You have been asked to present key principles of culturally responsive teaching to school staff to expand their understanding while recognizing their struggles and concerns.
Create a 10-12 slide digital presentation on concepts of culturally responsive education, while considering an audience that may be resistant or even hostile to the information. Using the topic Resources and your own research, include the following in your presentation:
Address school staff concerns or resistance by providing a rationale and/or benefits of implementing teaching practices that support diverse students.
Compare the major goals, principles, and concepts of the following approaches to teaching and learning that promote equity and diversity for culturally and linguistically diverse students: multicultural education, social justice education, and culturally responsive teaching.
Provide 4-5 classroom examples that support the principles of culturally responsive teaching and a positive learning environment.
Support your presentation with a minimum of three scholarly resources.
Presenter’s notes are required for each content slide. Presentation must include a title slide at the beginning, and a reference slide with documentation of resources at the end. The title slide and reference slide are not included in the total number of slides.
Include graphics that are relevant to the content, visually appealing, and use space appropriately.
