For this assignment, you need to do the following:
1. Refamiliarize yourself with the case study material entitled, “The fashion industry:
(Ir)Responsible Business” attached (pages 7-16) and available on Canvas. In addition,
refamiliarize yourself with the course materials around stakeholder management.
The focus should be on critical analysis, i.e., make sure you understand the key
theories and concepts related to stakeholder management and how they can address
the company you selected. This material will provide a starting point, but you should
also be prepared to conduct independent research on your company to find evidence
to support your analysis.
2. Start by identifying your chosen company’s relevant stakeholders, including their
motivations and interests. This research should include a range of reliable sources
beyond company and media sources, including academic journal articles and
additional materials targeted at the company from industry and NGO sources.
Tip: Using a stakeholder mapping approach may help you identify each company’s
various stakeholders and their relationships to each other.
3. Using the information collected in step two (2) and the material from the module,
analyze your company’s approach to stakeholder management. Here, you will need
to think about how and why they have managed stakeholders in the way they have.
Your analysis must be critical and examine the practices and activities of your
chosen company in relation to key stakeholders, applying relevant concepts and
theories from the module.
Tip: Given the length of the essay, you will not be able to cover every stakeholder or
use every theory. Instead, you need to be judicious and critically select the most
salient stakeholders and relevant themes.
4. Building on the analysis you conducted in steps two (2) and three (3), evaluate the company’s stakeholder management approach from a responsible business perspective. By a responsible business perspective, we mean the idea that businesses should consider society, economy, and environment and not only be driven by profit but also by a desire to improve life around the world. Here you will need to consider the successes and limitations of your chosen company’s actions and what alternative approaches are available to them. It is important that you base your analysis on the concepts and theoretical frameworks we’ve covered in class, not just your opinion or summarizing the information you found.
5. You will then need to summarize the analysis and evaluation conducted in steps two (2), three (3), and four (4) in your essay. Your essay should include a very brief background on the company and the key stakeholders as well as your analysis of the company’s stakeholder management approach from a responsible business
