A Social Worker

Research and ask a helping professional (e.g., social worker, counselor, marriage and family therapist,
psychologist, etc.) who works in a human services organization to participate in a 20-minute interview about
their professional role, experience in human services, and a particularly stressful, intense situation using
Flanagan’s (1954) Critical Incident framework and how they responded to that situation and what they learned.
With consent, you are to audio record the interview and follow your semi-structured, qualitative interview guide
that you will develop. You are to transcribe the audio recording of the interview and using Lichtman’s (2006)
Three Cs of Conceptualizing, Categorizing, and Coding, you will write a 4-5 page paper on the findings of your
interview. Additionally, you will evaluate what you learned from the interview, including a professional helper’s
scope of practice, code of ethics, training and experience, self-assessment, and self-care.
As an alternative, you may also create a Power Point presentation or a video in lieu of the paper assignment
consistent with the assignment expectations. Please make sure you provide a verbatim, typed transcript of the
Power Point presentation or video in proper APA format. Please include a References page. The Power Point
presentation or video along with the verbatim transcript need to be uploaded in Blackboard under the
appropriate week when the assignment is due.
