ADVOCACY THROUGH TECHNOLOGY

Congratulations! You’ve just been hired as the Director of Communications for American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).

non-profit group of your choice here that is aligned in some way to a cause / social issue that is important to you: American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).

As a college student you are known for your technology and communication skills, and for also flexing your critical thinking muscles! As the new Director of Communications for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), you will design an informational website about your cause that will also serve as a medium for:
** You do not need to design any website, as I have already done it. Just:
1) explain your connection to the cause,
2) recruit people to join your advocacy effort,
3) raise awareness and shaping attitudes,
4) communicate with decision makers.

Your advocacy site will contain the following:
1. Information/background history about the cause or the issue. Also, why do you feel it is important to advocate for this cause? (If exists, feel free to include a personal connection) 500+ words.
2. What is your plan for recruiting people to advocate with you? (think in terms of technology-how might you spread the word? –hint, hint Social Media) Provide an example. Your example will be in the form of a picture (real or mock) of the recruitment effort with a corresponding description of how your chosen technology is an effective means for recruitment (picture and minimum of 250+ words).
3. Raise awareness and shape attitude. You already provided information about the cause and also your connection to the cause—but how will you raise awareness? Share a minimum of three current news stories about your cause (link to the article or embed the article). Write a brief description (2-3 sentences) for each article. Also include a written piece (250+ words) that explains common misconceptions, or recent updates related to your cause.
4. Communication with decision makers. Successful advocacy efforts include communicating with a policy or decision maker to ask for their support or to educate them about your cause. Traditionally this may have been a letter written and mailed. However, with technology, advocates are offered more means for communication. Other than a letter or email, how might you communicate with a decision maker? Provide an example. Your example will be in the form of a picture (real or mock) of the communication effort with a corresponding description of who the decision maker is, and why it was important to communicate with them. Also include how your chosen technology is an effective means for engaging this particular policy or decision maker (picture and minimum of 300+ words).
