Write an essay of 2000 words using continuous prose, in which you analyse your selected recording in terms of its sound production. You should address:
a.the acoustic properties of the instruments/voices and
b.the ways in which they are used in your chosen work.
You should choose a line of argument that you feel is appropriate to the piece and its performance. For example, you might explore how the varied sounds in
a recording create musical interest, or make an argument about the relationship between the various sounds produced by different instruments.
The primary instrument featured in this recording is an electric guitar which provides both rhythm and melody throughout the piece. Its warm tones are complemented by a distinct attack, achieved through distortion effects such as wah-wah or fuzz pedals, both of which can be seen in use on stage. The lead guitarist also uses techniques such as slide guitar playing and volume swells to add texture to the music; often making use of a tremolo bar for subtle vibrato effect while soloing over chords or riffs.
