Locate a sample UbD lesson plan for use in this week’s second discussion. There are several free ones
available that can be located through a Google search. You might also use one from your own curriculum plan
or from your district if you use the UbD process in your own practice.
Analyze UbD Lesson Plan
You have had a chance now to consider the theory behind aligning standards, assessments, curriculum, and
instruction. Let us see if you can apply that to a classroom situation.
Take a close look at each of these components of curriculum planning in one of the sample curriculum units
that you have located either online or from your own district.
• Are the components aligned?
• Is there an assessment piece for each standard?
• Are there objectives aligned to the standards and assessments?
• How about the instructional plan?
• Are learning opportunities provided to support the students in achieving each curriculum objective and
standard?
• Is there a balanced assessment plan with different types of assessments identified, both formative and
summative?
• Make suggestions to tighten the alignment between the components of this week’s plan. Explain your ideas
and, again, be sure to cite the literature that supports your thinking and list it in a reference list at the end of
your posting.
