Part 1
1. Choose an ecosystem and describe representatives from the following taxons:
o Microorganisms (bacteria as well as protist)
o Lower plants (e.g., fungi, moss) and higher plants (e.g., ferns, gymnosperms, angiosperms)
o Animals (lower and higher)
2. Then, in at least 250 words, respond to the following questions:
o How has this ecosystem evolved to be successful and maintain itself?
o What problems does this ecosystem face?

Part II
1. Using a short PowerPoint (4–7 slides), describe that organism to your classmates. Explain why the organism might have gone extinct or why the new organism has recently been described. Be sure to include a description of the organism, its habitat, the environmental pressures on your organism, and a final interesting story or fact about your organism.
