“Brother, Can You Spare A Dime,” and “Who Cares?” Both have lyrics that reflect the times in which they were written.

1.Who wrote the songs? Give a little bio of the composer and lyricist.
How do the songs reflect the turmoil and the times during which they were
written?

2. Popular songs of the early 20th century often have two parts: the verse
and the chorus.  The verse is more speech like. In the case of “Brother, can 
you spare…” the first part is the verse; the chorus begins at the line: “Once I      
built a railroad…”
    In the case of “Who Cares?” the verse is the first part and the chorus
    Begins at the line “Who cares if the sky cares to fall in the sea?”.

    Answer the following: How would you describe the difference between
    these two sections in terms of 1.  Which has a melody that is easier

to remember? How would you describe the difference between the verse and the chorus in each song? Is there any repetition of musical material in the excerpts and if so, what is repeated?
