Business Ethics

Read Jeff Moriarty’s “How Much Compensation Can CEOs Permissibly Accept?”. You can find this article in the paper assignments folder on Canvas. Write a 2
– 3 page paper (typed, single-spaced) organized as follows:

• Section 1: Present and explain Moriarty’s argument for the conclusion CEOs have a moral responsibility not to seek or accept compensation above
the “MEC” level (MEC = minimum effective compensation). In your presentation of Moriarty’s ideas, please briefly include the two objections he anticipates
for his argument along with his replies to those two objections).
 Be sure to explicitly present and number Moriarty’s main premises and sub-arguments (When presenting the premises, use full sentences; no
sentence fragments, please.)
 You should also define the main terms or concepts that play a key role in Moriarty’s argument.
(Section 1 is worth 40% of your paper’s final grade

• Section 2: Evaluate Moriarty’s argument by applying Govier’s “A” and “G” conditions.
 Use the A condition to thoroughly evaluate at least two of Moriarty’s main premises or sub-arguments. You may strengthen or challenge
Moriarty’s premises in this process.
 Then use the G condition to determine the degree to which the premises, considered together, provide enough evidence to support Moriarty’s
main conclusion. Thoroughly explain your evaluation here. Go beyond what Moriarty has said. Bring new ideas into your discussion not already raised in your
A assessment above.

Develop each of your A and G evaluations with multiple, detailed arguments, relevant quantitative data, relevant supporting evidence.

Section 2 is worth 60% of your paper’s final grade.
