Close reading of a passage from a book

The book: Erika L. Sanchez, I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter Identify, gloss (that explains carefully what’s going on in the passage, including any unusual terms), and close read an important passage (of no less than 1 page and no more than 2 pages) from one of the books we have read from the second half of the term. Your goal will be to elucidate the importance of this passage, clarifying terms and references as needed to argue for why this passage is important for the book as a whole. So, make sure you have a strong thesis that says why this passage is crucial to the book, and then show us why with specifics, details, quotations, and analysis.
