The relationship between form and content, how the way a piece is written relates to what the piece is about. In the first paragraph of the essay, I want you to briefly describe how the form works before establishing your thesis. the thesis template i would like to use is “The form of the poem is related to the subject matter because”.
What connection do you see between the way the poem was put together and what the poem says? How does the form help to emphasize certain aspects of the poem’s subject matter? This is what i would like you to crystalize in your thesis and explore in greater detail in your body paragraphs. what may be lost if the poem were written in another form- if a villanelle were written as a sonnet for instance. How has the author made use of the feature of the form to produce a certain effect in the reader?
