Develop Preliminary Experimental Design and Data Acquisition for Regional Airport Passenger Experience Improvement Project
Step 4 – Preliminary Experimental Design:
Please clearly define what you think your key system performance measure should be. (if you can only measure and improve one thing, what would if be?) or (What single measure would you use to determine if one System Design is better than alternative System Designs)
Justify your decision on your selection of the key system performance measure.
List the constraints that your solution must not violate. (Think about the limits that our proposed solution must live within)
Discuss, is a well-organized fashion, all of the things we are allowed to change or vary to obtain our best system solution.
Step 5 – Data Acquisition:
First focus on the Data Provided (in the provided Excel file) for the Security Area – Provide a list of all the different types of information you will need to extract from this data to adequately model the security check area. Start at the beginning of the area (i.e. I.D. Check) and then systematically list section of the security check area. For each section, clearly indicate the type of information you will need and the values you have found for that information. (i.e. the probability that a passenger will need a second body search, or the distribution type and parameter values which best represents the bag screening time). Write this up in a Word Document File.
Take the original Excel file and manipulate it so that you can discover the information that you need. Clearly show in the spreadsheet the values you plan to use in your model. (use text labels and colored highlighting to make this information stand out)
If you use any other software to support your efforts to determine the information you need to model the Security area, please describe what you did (with cool screenshots) in the Word File you used to answer part 1. (No need to attach these other application-specific output files)
In the Project Description provided we are given lots of distances that the passengers will need to walk to catch their plane. What critical piece of information was not provided in the Project Description? How as an Industrial Engineer and a resourceful student (without direct access to the facility) are you going to get a value to use for this critical information?
Modeling the Arrival Rate or Pattern of passengers coming to the Airport is Complex. It changes minute by minute during the day. Using only the 2019 Data, does it also change from the day of the week today of the week? If so, how? Using only the 2019 Data, Does it change from Month to Month. If so, how? Using the 2019 passenger load as a baseline, determine across the entire year how much we expect passenger load to change for 2020 and 2021. Add your answers to these questions to the Word document you have started for this overall assignment.
Assuming you are given the Passenger Arrival Profile (# of Passengers arriving per time period) for the “Average Day” in 2019. Propose an algorithm that would allow you to adjust those values for any: Day of the Week, in any Month, during either 2019, 2020, or 2021. Please add your a description of your algorithm to the Word Document.
