Deadly Force

Deadly Force

The first research paper will be based on several deadly force cases that have taken place in our country over
the last few years. While each of these cases is based on individual facts, we can, in general, look at these
cases and conclude whether the present laws, policies, and guidelines are meeting their stated goals.
Please review the web-article http://www.cnn.com/2014/08/28/opinion/omara-use-of-force-browncase/index.html (use Google or Microsoft Edge) written by Mark O’Mara, a CNN legal analyst and defense
attorney. I wanted to start with this article due to the perspective of a defense attorney and the controversial
aspects that side would bring to the debate. This article is very well written and articulates specific points of
contention that need to be addressed in this paper. I could just as easily have submitted web-articles by prolaw enforcement that stressed the need for continued support of our police officers in the field. Thus, the
debate; both sides have valid issues that must be framed by our Constitution as well as moral and ethical
issues. Race, gender, and age, are but variables in a much wider issue.
Your paper will provide an analytical review of police use of deadly force and provide justifications as to their
position(s) and reasoning(s). Training, policies, legal statutes, Supreme Court cases, and Constitutional
Amendments are but a few of the variables that need to be addressed. If you state something as fact you will
be required to provide the reference used to validate that fact. If you express your personal opinions, you will
be required to justify those positions with further explanation. In other words, prove your position is correct by
providing evidence that proves “beyond a reasonable doubt” you are correct in your perspective. A student
may provide other web-articles or journal articles that provide information corroborating their position in this
paper.
