Choose one product / service (not discussed in class), identify a problem related to the product / service, and articulate a proposal for addressing the problem by answering all of the following questions: Why is this a problem? Why does it occur? Who does it affect? Which innovation approach was / could be adopted? (Radical, Incremental, Open Innovation…) What process was / could be followed? (New Product Development Processes (NPD)) What was / could be the role of design and designers? (Functional, Integration, Process Leadership…) What was / could be the impact on performance? *Make sure that you are using the design thinking principles to address these questions along the way, and further that you show your reflections, how you challenge your assumptions, and shape the answers using these principles. In your essay, you need to both analyze what the organization has done (including its approach to innovation when developing the current product/service), and provide some suggestions for what they could improve. Every product and service has an original approach to innovation, not all companies necessary utilize design thinking practices and processes though. The overall proposal should include suggestions for the organizational design and innovation practices that can be improved/strengthened (based on what you find in addressing all of the assessment questions), and it should also offer insight into how to improve the product/service itself.
