Designing a magnifying double convex magnifying glass

The following post has two assignments namely;

1.Designing a magnifying double convex magnifying glass

Problem 5

(a) Design a magnifying double convex magnifying glass, which has a focal length of 8om,

where the magnitude of the radius of curvature of one surface is four times the magnitude of
the radius of curvature of the other surface. Assume the index of refraction of the glass is 1.5
and the index of refraction of air is 1. State the two radii.
(b) Using the thin lens approximation, draw the image formation when an object is placed
4 cm from the lens, and calculate the magnification.
(c) How far should the object be from the lens for the magnification to be 5 x
Problem 6
A symmetric (i.e. R1 = -R2) double concave lens has a focal length of -8om (in air).
(a) What is the magnification when an object is placed 2am from the lens?
(b) For a magnification of 0.25, how far should the object be from the lens?
(c) If the radius of curvature of the lens is 8 cm, what is the index of refraction of the lens?
(d) If the index of refraction of the lens is 1.75, what is the radius of the double concave lens?
