Choose and identify qualitative images and details that best define the art history. Consider the guidelines for analyzing a work of art as well as this unit’s Lines of Inquiry as you craft your analysis. Properly label and credit all images, and cite primary and secondary sources in Chicago-Turabian style. All properties of the work of art must be clearly identified, including the title, date and period, material data (size, materials, and techniques [when known]), and museum or location. One source must be the attached textbook, chapter 8.

Question 1: Compare and contrast Old St. Peter’s Basilica with the Church of Hagia Sophia. Who were the patrons? What or whom did they glorify? What function did they have in the role of church and state? What influences from the past are evident in each one? Include appropriate terminology in your response.

Question 2: Discuss how Early Christian artists used narrative and iconic imagery to convey the stories from the Bible. What were the visual and artistic sources for the new images? Provide examples to support your analysis of style and iconography.
