Eating on the Road

Description

You are the head varsity baseball or volleyball coach for a large high school. Your team is involved in a weekend tournament, which is located about five hours away from home. Since you will be staying in a hotel overnight, you have to provide meals for your players. These will be at “fast” food restaurants since there is very little time between games. The tournament starts at 9 am, and the first round goes until noon. The second round begins around 1:30 and goes until 4:30 when you will head back home.

What is a fast-food restaurant? For this discussion, we will classify anything where you order from a counter a fast food restaurant. Examples would be McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, Panera Bread, Panda Express, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Raisin Cain’s, etc. Denny’s and IHOP do not count because you sit down and order off a menu. If you have any questions about a particular establishment, ask your instructor.

What foods should these athletes pick and eat? Check the table below. Using the first letter of your last name, see which meal you are assigned and design that meal from a fast-food restaurant’s menu. Be sure your meal plan provides an adequate amount of carbohydrate, protein, and fat for the time of day based on what you have learned in the class. To do this, you will need to analyze the meal using any diet analysis program. Post that meal plan and the nutritional information in the forum.

Also, in your discussion, provide one keyword to look for on that restaurant’s menu and a broader, more general guideline on selecting foods at a fast-food restaurant.

Meal -Dinner Calories -800-900

For your meal, you need to determine the percent calorie distribution from carbohydrate, protein, and fat.

In your forum discussion, provide the restaurant, the food items you picked for the athletes to eat, and the percent distribution of fat, carbohydrate, and protein calories. State why you picked that distribution of calories and support your answer.
