The article discusses strategies, resources, and ideas for working with young children to help them gain pre-literacy skills such as recognizing letters, sounds, sight words, story structure etc.
The first strategy discussed in the article is introducing activities that incorporate a variety of senses for learning. This could include singing songs or nursery rhymes related to letter recognition and sound identification; playing games that introduce letter sounds; engaging children in hands-on activities such as using sand trays or play dough mats to form letters; providing print materials like books and magazines; allowing access to educational toys like puzzles or block sets that have elements related to language development; providing positive reinforcement when a child demonstrates understanding of concepts being taught; and providing opportunities for meaningful conversations about text material including shared stories at home or school.
