Feasibility study of establishing a new airline

The following post has two assignments;

1.Feasibility study of establishing a new airline

You are part of the team undertaking the feasibility study of establishing a new airline and have been tasked with identifying the regulatory requirements of the different Regulatory Authorities in
the US and UAE. The new airline plans to operate large, sophisticated jet aircraft in scheduled service on international routes.

Identify, analyze and explain the mandatory management positions each regulator requires for an air carrier.

• Examine the two sets of regulations in regards to the mandatory management positions each regulator requires for an air carrier.
• Compare and contrast the qualifications and experience required for the mandatory management positions stated in the FAA Regulations (FARs) and their equivalent roles under the UAE GCAA
Regulations.
• Identify and describe four (4) specific, significant differences between the two sets of regulations in terms of the positions titles, responsibilities and qualifications.
• Compare and contrast the differences and discuss the reasons why these differences exist.
• In your conclusion, evaluate which Authority has the most appropriate approach given taking into account advancing technology, differing operational constraints and requirements and
evolving attitudes to air carrier operational safety.

Task 2: (60 marks out of 100)

Two of the major regulatory bodies in the aviation world are the FAA in the United States and the European JAA (EU-Ops). The Joint Aviation Regulations, JAR-OPS1 is the equivalent to FAR Part 121
when it comes to airline operations. In the UAE we use the Civil Aviation Regulations (CARS) an almost identical set of rules to the Joint Aviation Regulations.

Investigate both the FAA and GCAA regulations and address the following key elements:

• Compare the rules on the “Authority of the Commander” and describe the commonalities and main differences.
• Part 121 subpart G and CAR Subpart P govern manual requirements. Please describe and compare the two sets of requirements.
• Find and compare the rules on certification of Pilots.
• What are the requirements governing minimum Cabin Crew (Flight Attendants) in the two sets of regulations? Note any differences.
• What are the regulations regarding minimum fuel requirements in the two sets of regulations. Do they differ? Why?
• Analyze the layout of the two sets of rules and discuss them in terms of design and usability.
• Summarize your findings and reflect what you have learnt in your conclusion.

2.Computer Aided Engineering Design

You have been commissioned by a digger company who is investing in new mini digger for pavement or back garden work. The size of the digger need to be transported in a size: 2.3m in height, 1m in
width and 3m in length. The mini digger needs to be able to turn freely in 360 degree.

You need to apply finite element analysis and optimisation on one of the components of the mini digger. The results need to be validated by hand calculation.

There should be three bucket sizes: 250mm, 350mm and 450mm in width. This can be achieved through design tables.

Design and model a mechanism which is capable of satisfying the brief.
