You have been hired by The National Air and Space Museum to work on the design of their fire and life safety systems. Floor plans can be found at: https://airandspace.si.edu/visit/museum-dc/floor-plan-guides. The overall building has dimensions of 635 feet in length, 225 feet in width (use these numbers to scale interior measurements). In a short report, provide the following information.
1. Determine how many people are expected to be present.
2. Provide the minimum exit and stair widths that are required (can use either NFPA or IBC).
3. Some of the upper management does not think that anything should be done because they have never had a fire and putting in systems could damage the historical nature of the structure and artifacts. Address these concerns by identifying previous fires that will illustrate to the skeptics that fire protection is essential.
4. The same skeptical people in upper management do not want to let people know that there is a fire because that will cause people to panic. Explain why that is not an issue and provide a sample message to be used for a fire located in the Gallery of Flight.
5. What would be your evacuation plan? Explain your answer in detail.
6. Assuming that the fire is blocking the main entrances (Gallery of Flight), how would you ensure that the crowd goes where they are required.
