Read in the book, “The explanations of the different types of reciprocity”. Then, go to freecycle.org, apply for an account in your town (East Hartford, CT), and look at the different messages going back and forth. What type of reciprocity is this? Why do you think the freecycle idea has caught on so well? How does this impact the ‘regular economy’ of money exchange? Can you tell who mostly posts ‘wanted’ and who posts ‘item for free’ by the screen names? How does this create prestige amongst the users? Do you think we could get most of our needs met with a freecycle-type of network? Go to craigslist.org and click on the ‘Free’ items. Do you see a prestige undercurrent on this site? Is this a different list than freecycle? Is there a community feel to craigslist similar to freecycle? Why or why not?
